Foods & Nudes | Original Oil Illustration

About Alexis

I've enjoyed being an artist since before I can remember. Over the years, I've experimented with everything from painting, printmaking and sculpture, to stained glass, mosaics and three-dimensional mixed media. Aside from some upper-level art classes in high school, I am completely self-taught. I surround myself with the opportunity to be creative by working a full-time job in graphic design.

Beyond the work seen here on the website, I succeeded in building a following for my acrylic paintings and mosaic work from 2005 to 2010.

I produce all of my work out of my home studio in North Texas, which I share with my better half, Barry, our German Shepherd and three cats. Any time we have to spare is usually spent scooping the litter box or watching cheesy zombie movies.

About the Artwork

My creative process is fairly simple. I use a layering technique with oil pastel in which I stack color to create the desired effect. Believe it or not, I use nothing but my bare fingers to blend the colors. Each piece dries for approximately 2 weeks, after which I apply several light coats of fixative.

Since oil pastel is much like oil paint, it never completely dries. My paintings have an average 40 year life before they may begin to crack. Therefore, if you are purchasing an original piece, it's highly recommended that you display it framed and behind glass. I use standard size canvases, so frames should be fairly easy to find at your local craft or home décor store. My prints are printed on non-yellowing, archival quality paper, and also conform to standard frame and mat sizes. Additional print sizes may be available, so please feel free to contact me with special requests.
